Clint Eastwood Painting by Borbay

My ‘East Meets West’ series is now two strong! Introducing “The Good, The Bad, and The Fanelli’s” — my portrait of Clint Eastwood as Blondie from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; hanging in front of Fanelli’s on Prince Street, in Manhattan.

TWIN PEAKS SAN FRANCISCO — A Brendan Ben Feeney Collaboration

Twin Peaks Painting by Borbay

I’m honored and delighted to share the commissioned collaboration between yours truly, and artist extraordinaire — Brendan Ben Feeney. I met BBF on Twitter many years ago… in fact, he was kind enough to send Erin and I a photograph for our wedding back in 2011.

As time developed, so too did our friendship and admiration for one another. When Ben reached out with his idea, I couldn’t wait to begin our Twin Peaks collaboration.

Here is Ben’s amazing photograph, which guided the way. This work was featured in Tufts Magazine, along with an in-depth profile on BBF.

Citgo Sign Painting En Plein Air by Borbay

Citgo Sign Painting by Borbay

I first set foot on Boston University’s campus as a 17-year-old, 123-pound runner, looking to channel the Terrier. Despite graduating from the College of Fine Arts, I never painted live on the streets of Boston.

So, when I found myself in town for the first time in ten years… I decided to rectify this egregious error. With my penchant for neon, and the recent drama surrounding Citgo… the subject chose me.

Welcome To Twin Peaks Neon Sign Painting

Welcome To Twin Peaks Painting Neon by Borbay

Welcome To Twin Peaks, fire, walk with neon… I’ve long admired the work of David Lynch, from film to sound to canvas. A consummate original, and architect of universes, I strove to capture a symbol of the great Lynch/David Frost series in a new light. Neon, to be specific.

Teton Theatre — Painted Live at The Four Seasons

Teton Theater Night Painting by Borbay

With time comes change. Recently, the Teton Theatre marquee was removed, making way for a new pizza joint (mmmm… pizza). And, so, as a man with great admiration for signs… I decided to spend my Saturday evening as Artist-In-Residence at Four Seasons Jackson Hole painting this classic, decommissioned slice of Jackson.

Atomic Liquors Las Vegas Painting by Borbay

Atomic Liquors Painting by Borbay

The energy of Fremont street followed me to Idaho. While in Vegas, I created a smaller painting of the Atomic Liquors sign… but I wanted to dig deeper. Go larger. So I did, to the tune of three by five feet.

Atomic Liquors En Plein Vegas Air

Atomic Liquors Painting by Borbay

Atomic Liquors is the oldest freestanding bar in Las Vegas, with liquor license #0001. Back in the day, folks would head up to the roof with a cocktail to watch the nukes go boom in the horizon about 50 miles away. That seems dangerous to me, but I carry a cell phone in my front pocket — so what do I know? This baby has been featured in scores of movies… and is flat out one of the best damn neon signs in the world.

Atomic Liquors Las Vegas by Borbay

Here is a snap of the glorious sign, lit-up beautifully, on a warm Vegas night.
