TWIN PEAKS SAN FRANCISCO — A Brendan Ben Feeney Collaboration

Twin Peaks Painting by Borbay

I’m honored and delighted to share the commissioned collaboration between yours truly, and artist extraordinaire — Brendan Ben Feeney. I met BBF on Twitter many years ago… in fact, he was kind enough to send Erin and I a photograph for our wedding back in 2011.

As time developed, so too did our friendship and admiration for one another. When Ben reached out with his idea, I couldn’t wait to begin our Twin Peaks collaboration.

Here is Ben’s amazing photograph, which guided the way. This work was featured in Tufts Magazine, along with an in-depth profile on BBF.

Here is the entire process inside of one minute… enjoy, and thank you to my boys, The Ambershift, for the delightful sounds.

Two shapes, and a splash of orange… that’s how we do.

There you go, some pure red… now, we are ready for the sky.

Fog plays an important role in the San Francisco landscape… so I decided to create a fog effect by breaking down the blues into biomorphic shapes. Ameoba’s? I’ll never tell.

Had a great time painting those shapes… many tones and gradients.

The addition of shadows marked a seismic leap in the painting’s definition.

Painting neon tubes? Always the payoff pitch in this type of painting.

That martini glass and radiating red/pink were great fun… and, yes, I did have a martini while painting this part.

Those clouds are pink and fluffy.

Drawing those bulbs? Took a hot minute, but it’s always worth it when you get to paint them in… which was up next.

Nothing in the world beats the final touches… reflected light, pulsating bulbs… and here you have it! Twin Peaks. Thank you Ben, it was an honor and a privilege to work with you on this. I can’t wait until the real thing arrives!

Welcome To Twin Peaks Painting Neon by Borbay

This, incidentally, was my second Twin Peaks painting. The first? Inspired by the epic David Lynch series…

BBF, Borbay, Paul Ryan

But wait, before I go! BBF, yours truly and Paul Ryan managed to meet up for some cold ones in Boston. That, friends, was a night to remember.

  1. Speechless.

    The collaboration was amazing.

The final painting is beyond all expectations, Borbay!

    So luminescent.

Elements of San Francisco, Idaho, Boston, and New York City art flavor went into this stunning work of visual art.

Thanks for interpreting my work with perfection. I look forward to getting together with the “painting posse”–Borbay, Ben, and Paul– in Idaho, at the unveiling of your next major work.

Once again, from one artist to another, you understand the language and vocabulary of neon. You were able to convey the energy and “Edward-Hopper-feel” of this neon sign I scouted in San Francisco, CA, on one of my many Western USA street photography gigs.

I’m basking in the glow of my new Borbay original.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
