Wilson Motel Session Painting by Borbay

Another Saturday chasing neon at Four Seasons Jackson Hole… cannot beat the live painting experience! This week, we had live music, cocktails and a visit from artist/entrepreneur extraordinaire — Haley Badenhop

Began with a china marker sketch once again… only this time, I mauled “MOTEL” on the first go. So I drew it again, directly on top. Yes, my eyes hurt too.

Right into the blue… someone, accurately, pointed out the sign feels like the one from Bates Motel.

The actual sign hasn’t been lit in years — I couldn’t even find an image of it aglow online. So, I had to do some re-invention.

So I did a fairly extensive amount of work on the trees, leaves and sign structure. Alas, something happened… the studio lights were so bright, I pushed the area surrounding the glow so dark, it feels like a ghost.

There are no mistakes in art… and so, my Wilson Motel sign took on a haunting feel. If you stare at the pole directly below the “T” in “MOTEL”, you’ll see it begins to pop. Trippy! Take this baby home, and hey, come visit me next Saturday at the Ascent Lounge…
