Here is the entire process in just over one minute….
This picture was taken by our new friend, Max Macat… a fine Vegas snap. Keep reading, there’s more.
A blank slate for the third Welcome to Las Vegas Sign painting…
A quick magenta and orange wash… why not? It’s Vegas.
Painstaking drawing process… first with pencil, then ink… the straight lines are ruler assisted, but everything is drawn from the eye.
Getting my draw on, photo courtesy of the talented Max Macat — a most welcome addition to our Vegas squadron.
All the painting I could handle on the first day under a blazing hot Vegas sun.
Process within the process… Max photographing me filming myself for the timelapse above — our recent BBC feature in action.
Mixing paint in the desert is a difficult task… extremely rapid drying.
Leaning in for more paint.
Airplane was a great film.
Accurate work in the hotel room… much better paint control.
Painting from our Excalibur cabana (#16 to be precise). The lights are on, Welcome style… more angles ready for hue.
What it looks like… cabana painting… getting back into the greens, popping the lights in the foreground.
Right down to the final decisions… always important as you enter the prestige phase. Sharpen lines, tighten up gradients, sign it.
It’s Vegas, so here I am in front of the sign.
And Vegas Sign #3 completed!
