The owners of Jake’s Saloon commissioned Artist Jeremy Penn and yours truly to create an old-tyme Manhattan scene on the 11X26 foot exterior brick wall at their 875 10th Avenue location, at the North West corner of West 57th and 10th Avenue. We relished the opportunity to make our mark on the Manhattan landscape.

Landfill Art Project Contribution, “Popped a Cap In The New York Post”
At the tail end of January, Ken Marquis hit me up about the landmark global artist reclamation project. In his words, “The project will involve one thousand and forty-one (1,041) artists worldwide. To date there are over nine hundred artists involved across 51 countries. This artist initiative is by far the largest undertaking of its kind.”
Painting Process | Target Practice in a New York City Basement — Approved
Gun control is a major issue, particularly in New York City. It’s dangerous to carry, and for many celebrities, it’s dangerous to not carry… or is it? Regardless of your stance, if you want to fire some rounds, all you have to do it head over to the West Side Pistol and Rifle. There, you pay, shoot, and take out the stresses of your daily life.
Painting Process | Palace Hotel, Camp Tel Yehudah Krulewitz Commission
When Josh Krulewitz and I began planning this painting, he told me it would be a surprise for his wife’s birthday. Under the circumstance, we had to be extra stealthy and diligent to create a meaningful piece on the sly. After numerous back-and-forth emails, we decided on a three-framed image featuring meaningful photographs and locations in their life. In the upper left quadrant, there is a “scrap booked” section featuring family photos.
Painting Process | Bryant Park Grill for The Garrick’s
My brother’s best friend of 20 years got married this weekend, so I decided to commemorate this special moment with a painting of The Bryant Park Grill. There, Chris and Ann exchanged vows — and I, amongst many other guests, enjoyed several adult beverages. Understatement.
Painting Process | Museum of Art and Design – Target Bernie Madoff
I’ve had my eye on the controversial redesign of the Museum of Art and Design for some time. When I discovered a composition including the CNN Sign and the sexy Hearst Tower, how could I resist?
Painting Process | Apple Store on 5th Avenue, Target Steve Jobs
Apple’s stock finally surpassed the mighty Microsoft, to the chagrin of Steve Ballmer no doubt. But wait, now there is a huge security flaw with the iPad… oh, and Steve Jobs thinks Flash is garbage. And Obama thinks the iPad is a major distraction – he told some recent college grads.
Painting Process | Time Out New Yorks 12th Floor View Completed
My 3’X4′ painting of Time Out New York‘s 12th story view is now complete. A little back story: After being named Time Out New York’s Most Creative New Yorker (a title I do not sew onto my blazer, but do use to help sell paintings and commissions) – I decided to ask Time Out if I could set up shop, and paint the view from their West Side offices. After getting the go-ahead in December, I broke my leg playing hockey and had to wait three more months.
Painting Process | Eustace Tilley, The New Yorker Icon
The year was 1925, the heart of the roaring twenties. New Yorker protagonist Eustace Tilley (below) had little on his mind other than butterflies and jazz ensembles. That was then. Today, poor old Eustace is out of sorts. The headlines illustrate doom and gloom. Strange new breeds of Three Term Changing Butterflies demand attention… he feels guilty. A rich man in a sea of social decline, afraid of terrorism, wondering who wants to kill him and his way of life.
Painting Process | Empire State Building Broken Leg Painting
Sometimes there’s a man. Sometimes, that man spends 14 hours a day sitting on his couch, leg elevated, popping painkillers. That man is me, and this painting, is a 6″X18″ rendering of the Empire State Building. To date, I have done many Chrysler Building pictures, so it was high-time for an Empire.
