Non-Fungible Tokens… NFT’s… it’s a brave new world for creatives. And, like a realtor riding the post-pandemic splendor — I dove in. My first foray into the Ethereum Blockchain? A series entitled, “Crib Kawara, Meta Reboot”. Say what?
I’ll explain… but first, let’s journey back to the early 1970’s…
Brilliant retailers created Black Friday in the early 2000’s — the idea? Offer ridiculous sales to generate a frenzy of opportunistic buyers. On Thursday you give thanks. On Friday, you beat up your neighbor for cheap Spanx… and a flatscreen. Not to be outdone by it’s food court counterparts, in 2005 the online retailers said, “Have your Black Friday, we’ll offer Cyber Monday with better deals and free delivery.”
Visiting some galleries in late 2012 with his Wife Marla, a gentleman by the name of Robert Oringer who never considered himself an art guy/collector, had an epiphany moment. He saw some collage art and it got him thinking about the crazy collection of NY Post issues he had amassed over decades— piles of NY Posts meticulously protected and stored away without any objective in mind. So he went to Google and began to search the Net for collage artists, one perhaps to convert his collection into art when he stumbled upon another Post fanatic… yours truly.
Allow me to introduce my latest portrait: the man, the legend, Bono. This collage painting was commissioned by Lynn Serra, and contains many personal details within the canvas.
Justin Theroux as Adam Kesher from Mulholland Drive by David Lynch. That’s all you really need to know… huge fan of the actor, character, movie and director. The palette is guided by the movies strong sense of blue.
Certain cinematic characters grab you, and resonate for years. Daniel Day Lewis‘ brilliant turn as Bill The Butcher in Gangs of New York is one of them.
BIG NEWS: friend and artist Jeremy Penn will represent the United States of America at The Pan-American Games in Mexico this August. He will be painting a 5’X5′ rose for our nation, one of 42 from around the world. Check out the full press release here. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor for a talented artist.
