A Portrait of Stan Pajerski

Stan Pajerski Painting by Borbay

Please allow me to introduce my latest portrait — Stan Pajerski. I met Stan and his lovely wife Janice at Teton Springs last summer. A quick conversation lead to a fast friendship, and after a close inspection of my Indiana Jones piece — the idea of creating Stan’s portrait came to life.

After a series of interview questions, and deep sourcing for images and headlines to capture the essence of Stan — it was time to carefully trim, paste and apply the under-painting. The Pajerki’s and I share a deep passion for Las Vegas, which, as you can see, is an important visual anchor.

The shadows define the likeness… and, fortunately, after two tones and a third drawn — we struck the look.

As you may have noticed, my previous three portraits have been black-and-white — it was exciting and challenging to revisit a vibrant palette. This being the case, I was careful to exercise patience… mixing colors, applying a small swatch in two layers, and allowing it to dry for analysis. It took me until mid-life to embrace the work smarter, not harder notion. Still have volumes to learn, fortunately.

Now, I was feeling saucy, so I worked on the highlight tones and the background simultaneously. According to my resume, I was efficient at multitasking at 22 — but let me tell you, I had no idea what it was back then.

This was a critical turning point… the first layer on the face was done, but I needed to activate the dimensions… so I added a saturated orange tone…

And wham! There it is… the turn. All that remained was breaking down the final two tones… and, during this exploration, I realized a third was necessary.

And, with that extra tone, and some careful attention to the shirt… we have a completed collage painting portrait of Stan! Stan and Janice, I’m so grateful we met, and truly appreciate our time working together on this.

Here’s very much looking forward to your reaction when you see this in-person… as well as our next opportunity to bond over golf, Vegas and, perhaps even a stiff cocktail or three.
