Thanks to a chance encounter with Cheena, Tiffany and Scott in Cheyenne during the Wyoming Governor’s Conference — we enjoyed our spring break relaxing at Saratoga Hot Springs Resort, in Saratoga, Wyoming. When I wasn’t soaking or spending time with the fam, I was capturing the scene on canvas next to a roaring fire.

Here is the entire painting process captured in time-lapse… enjoy the visuals, with a beautiful soundtrack, courtesy of The Ambershift. And now… for process shots and pictures of our adventure!
A quick grid on a black ground… pencil shows better this way.
Laying out the teepee’s, with a little help from a straight edge and my friend patience.
Focusing hard… feeling the fireplace.
I dove right in, banging out the sky, trees and moon…
Laying out the other shapes in de-saturated tones… it was here, I realized the trees didn’t make sense… so I decided to repaint the entire sky.
Three cheers for concentric circles! As I’ve learned over the years, my photography lights are insanely bright… the darkest tones of the sky are the deepest of blues, bordering on black.
Finally, it was time to illuminate the teepee’s… aka, the most fun part.
And boom! Excited to know that it will be in good hands. Now… let’s take a look at the adventure…
It was an honor sharing the painting with Dr. Michael and Sharon Janssen — owners of the resort.
Another beauty of a shot, for the memoirs — thank you Cheena!
On our way, we stopped in Rock Springs to hit the slides. Vega loved it.
My gorgeous lady and Esser, rocking out at a gas station.
Dogs prohibited, kids cool.
Rolling into Saratoga… always a good sign.
My very good friend, Chas Marsh, was kind enough to beat me ten times in a row.
Here’s Chas, co-founder of Jackson Hole Stillworks, hanging with Danny, proprietor of the new (and excellent) spot — Firewater Public House (steak frites + Great Grey Gin and Tonic = yes!)
Lunch time with the fam!
Sage & Sand… I may have to paint this neon…
While painting, I met Dr. Bill Ward… who was racking up big victories on the pool table. He was kind enough to invite me over… where I met Carole… and saw his extensive art collection — including…
A series of original sketches from the 60’s of neon signs, from the now defunct Casper Neon.
The Virginian! This sign has changed over the years… in fact, I painted the most recent iteration.
This one.
Another beauty… the Willow Inn. He has about sixty total — absolute treasures!
Trophy wall.
This mountain lion was creepin’…
The girls love throwing rocks.
My beauty, about to soak in the snow…

Absolutely love this video of Erin taken moments later.
Esser-bo-besser, in front of the fireplace in my temporary studio.
And busting out the patented Borbay barrel chest… proud of you little guy!
Hotel Wolf… owned by the Campbell’s, winners of the 2018 Big WYO Award.
Edge delivered some scrum-dilly surf-n-turf… here is my bride, enjoying our date night.
Sweet model… note: the actual hotel is much larger.
I found a buck in the lobby.
Lovely light… you can feel the history.
Moose in the saloon? Obviously.
Erin and the girls, hanging by the springs at sunset.
The fam, running home after dinner.
My love, in front of the fireplace! What a trip. Thank you Scott, Tiffany, Cheena and Dr. Janssen! We had a wonderful time, and will be back.
