It’s been thirty or so years since the Gai Mode Beauty Salon neon sign has been active in Jackson Hole… so, when I decided to paint it… invention was the name of the game.

Gai is the latest piece I’ve created as Artist-In-Residence at Four Seasons Jackson Hole. Big ups to Nicholas Howard for the soundtrack.
Black ground, pink all around.
A four tequila cocktail to get things going… orange you glad I had the blues… on canvas. OK, I apologize for that.
Tubes and trees… could be a great album title.
Banging away on Snow King, darkening up the reds, and overall looking to push some depth.
I decided to take this photograph toward the end of the process to illustrate just how bright the painting lights are. You have to mix a few shades lighter than you think, because what you are really creating is quite dark.
Feel beautiful.
Speaking of beauty… remember last week’s painting of Rawhide?
Thank you for sharing your process! I love showing your work to my students. You rock!
