Welcome To Twin Peaks, fire, walk with neon… I’ve long admired the work of David Lynch, from film to sound to canvas. A consummate original, and architect of universes, I strove to capture a symbol of the great Lynch/David Frost series in a new light. Neon, to be specific.

Here is how the entire painting came together, captured in a one minute time lapse.
An outline, a fiery under-painting, and a White Lodge day dream.
Drawing the letters, the trees, the peaks… jumping into the sky.
Everything has been established in the sign… I went dark first.
I painted the letters dirty ochre… it was important to understand how the colors felt prior to adding neon.
Subtle tonal shifts in the background. It was here, I spent some time looking, and thought — perhaps I will recreate the red room below the sign.
Posts painted, time to add the tubes… my first round was an aggressive set of yellow lines.
And now, bringing the red glow… this is where the neon effect begins to take hold.
Yes… red shadow, reds, greens…
The hills are covered in zig-zags… a deeper purpose.
While mildly satisfied with the effect, I decided to repaint every tone on the sign, beginning with the blue and the red. It was important to focus on how the light would truly act…
Now we have achieved glow… now onto the green, take two… and a repaint of the letters to make them pop… more yellow… more reverberation.
Yes, once the green was activated, all that remained was the tubes.
And completed. Welcome To Twin Peaks, painted in neon.
Upside down… you can see the red room, captured in an arial view, showing the hallway behind the scenes. I will also say, I embedded a message somewhere within the painting…
Worth noting, I watched the original two seasons four times in creating this painting… you catch something new every time.
