2015 was Voltron. Vega was born in February. One month later we found ourselves in Exuma, and in July, we left Manhattan for good. The nomadic lifestyle was good to us… and, in fact, it was during our stay in Teton Village that we decided to move to ‘The End Of The Trail’.
Here’s what went down on the road (NSFW, just kidding, it’s very safe).
So I basically drove a hotel 1200 miles from Minnetonka to Victor. A 48-foot-long, shattering my previous record of 17′ (insert size matters joke).
This wild and crazy guy joined me for the adventure. Greg McMahon and yours true met somewhere around 1993, and so, 23 years later, we hit the road.
Pro travel tip — put your Great Gatsby t-shirt over the hotel pillow for an extra level of facial security. Things happen in hotels.
I wore the same thing every day… which I think is fine. At least it works for Peter Griffin.
Those spectacular long climbs through North Dakota give way to some smoldering sunsets (say that five times).
‘Hey Farva what’s the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?’ One thing I noticed from our waitress… the phrase “fair enough” seems to be popular in North Dakota.
Moments later, ‘Purple Haze’ came on the radio — and all was right with the world.
Found a hotel called “The Vegas” in Billings… can’t get away from Vegas (this is a good thing). I’ll probably paint this sign.
A pit stop in Yellowstone National Park. It was snowing, in case you didn’t notice.
That John Denver wasn’t, in fact, full of shit.
Purty snap by McMahon.
Settling-in after the long haul, staring at the sun (literally, which I know is bad for you, but it felt right in the moment).
Chatting with one of Amy‘s creations at Local.
Lifts and Bounds at Fjallraven.
We played half-a-dozen games at The Cowboy Bar — I’ll let McMahon tell you the results.
Saddle up partner.
Making some kick-ass pork burritos from scratch.
Greg taking in Teton Villagio.
A little Persephone selfie, in reflection.
Ah, the majestic Snake River looking oh, so, beautiful.
When a school bus rolls behind you, as you take a snap on a reflective surface with a print in the backdrop.
Over the weekend, I attended an excellent Silicon Couloir event at Driggs City Hall. Hosted by Couloir Executive Director Scott Fitzgerald and Driggs Mayor Hyrum Johnson, a panel including Mike Morey, Tim Wells, Sandy Hessler, Steve Kitto, and Brian McDermott spoke candidly about their entrepreneurial experiences, later fielding questions from D. Mark Nygren’s industrious BYU Idaho students.
After my tip-top co-pilot McMahon returned home, I ventured to the Knotty Pine Supper Club to bend the elbow with local legend Mike Piggott…
Can’t wait to share the next chapter with you! Thank you Greg for joining me on the adventure… and to my new friends in Victor and Jackson — much to come.
Erin, Coraline and Vega – can’t wait for you to join me! Miss and love you with everything.
