Introducing my second painting created as Art Exuma‘s first Artist-in-Residence: “Mindscape Emerald Bay.” This 14″X18″, acrylic on canvas work, represents the first time I’ve merged land-and-mindscapes. I’m finding myself deeply influenced by the Bahamian magic.
As you can imagine… inspiration comes swiftly when this is your studio.
Ever a fan of the hot under-painting, following a quick orange wash, I painted the sky in horizontal gradients (versus my standard vertical).
Focusing-in on painting the furthest point first… the peninsula with the radio tower, followed by the water and finally, the 17th Tee Box.
It was here, after a night of lucid dreaming, I became compelled to merge the mind-and-landscapes.
Pointillism all around… a rainbow of shapes twisting in the sky.
The dense shrubbery… flooding the foreground. If you’ve ever played golf in a tropical climate, these bushes might as well be the ocean… balls are swallowed-up, forever lost.
With the organic portions of the canvas completed… it was time to bring the mindscape to the foreground.
Chillin’ on my patio… you know this is candid by the lack of gun-flexing.
Connecting the geometrical forms made sense… as if they were bisecting the landscape.
My final palette, replete with Bahamian color.
A process image, snapped at 7:33AM, prior to the prestige phase.
Fin. “Mindscape Emerald Bay”, 14″X18″, Acrylic on Canvas. I’m deeply enjoying my stay at the Grand Isle Resort as Art Exuma‘s first AIR… more to come.
