Oh what a glorious year — my finest, in fact, even better than 2012. Let’s get right to the heart of this thing.
2013 began with my solo exhibition, “Kick Ass Actors in Kick Ass Roles” opening at the Wix Lounge…
Which was covered extensively by the press.
A big shout and thank you to Ashley (pictured here with me, Paul and Erin) and the entire Wix team for being tremendous supporters.
And here I am with collectors and now friends, the Oringer’s… since the show, Robert has become a mentor, sharing insights both on and off the easel.
My studio took a trip back-to-the-future, beginning with this painting of Sutton Place. I also took a look back at the evolution of my location paintings, beginning in 2009.
Following Sutton Place, I was commissioned to paint the Space Needle, so it was wheels-up to the land of Starbucks and light beams.
Here I am with Justin… former boss… collector and close friend.
Next-up in the studio… Central Park Southeast, another 40″X40″ painting.
Keeping true to my live painting routes, I found myself blasting out this beast in Brooklyn of all places.
2013 was a record year for sales, fittingly, I penned the “Art of the Art Deal“.
Up next? A commissioned portrait of musical legend: Bono.
My third annual trip to Vegas was outstanding… I raised $6,000 for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS in 35 minutes.
There, I painted the Welcome Sign for the 3rd time…
And took a moment to contemplate why I go, and how Vegas is Gold — one reason is lovely Paula Caselton.
The Vegas crew… Borbay, Zepeda, Lankin.
I had the opportunity to team up with two artists I admire, Jeremy Penn and Jake Nelson, to create this piece during the New Museum’s IDEAS CITY.
A major collaboration with Penn was displayed at Situation Raw, another show at the Wix Lounge curated by Rachel Wells. I also put my best gloves forward to Fight for a good cause.
I took a trip up to Rockland County Park (thank you Jeremy) to paint this surprise commission.
Design Bureau Magazine featured yours truly in The Art of Self Representation.
My Guggenheim for 20 Years series continued with #5 — all five have been acquired.
I got my interview on with Paul Wharton.
Up next? Another live painting event with the BalloonUp gang at Side Walk Cafe.
The futurist series inspired this different direction… a fictional landscape inspired by the Central Park Reservoir.
Here’s an 11 minute presentation on marketing… again, at the Wix Lounge.
Running and art… a major connection in my life explored in Competitor Magazine.
Thanks to Author Adam Montandon, I contributed some thoughts in his major book release: The Awesome Department.
The greatest moment of 2013: Coraline Frances Borbet was born on July 28th, at home, under candle light.
Naturally, there had to be a time lapse of the entire process (conception not included).
I was commissioned to create this portrait of Deborah Paul… one of four portrait commissions created in 2013.
My large Africascape painting was featured in New African Woman magazine with Supermodel Oluchi… host of Africa’s Next Top Model.
The Photographer/Creative Director? Collector and co-star of the same show: Remi Adetiba.
The Domino Sugar Factory is coming down… so I painted it up and hung it in Brooklyn for a month.
My growing series of Minnesota paintings increased by a Grain Belt.
While in the Sotes, I took a shot at Jerry Saltz, and my Father-in-Law and me snagged some press.
Have an hour to spare? Get out of your Comfort Zone with this podcast interview on Scott Sehon’s new channel.
Back to running… a portrait of Olympian and entrepreneur Anthony Famiglietti accompanying a sparkling new blog series by Duncan Larkin.
Fighting Cancer through ARTPROV. A big shout to Rory Scholl (grey suit), someone I’ve collaborated with frequently since the days of Stand-up.
Revisiting one of my favorite location paintings of yesteryear in the style of today.
Uma made a list of Jack Dorsey’s Favorite things… it was a big year for me and Square…
Looking Ahead to 2014
Michael Jackson, Inc. — Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s next book will hit the shelves in the summer of 2014… I’m painting the cover, and new friend Ghostwridah will be laying down the painting process video track.
MH The Verb Album Cover — Watch for the early 2014 drop of MH’s latest album, cover art by yours truly.
Traveling Commissions — I’ll be flying to Jackson Hole for a new commission at the end of January.
Thank You — 2013… it’s a wrap! Much love to my gorgeous Wife Erin, beloved Family (here and in Minnesota), friends, collectors, collaborators, mentors, hockey teammates… everyone. Thank you.
