It was soon to be a dark and stormy night at Waterfront Park, home of the Trenton Thunder. But before the rain fell, I had the distinct pleasure of presenting portraits I created of David Robertson and Robinson Cano to the stars.
A few months ago, a gentleman named Thomas “Doc” Haveron spotted my work in the MLB Fan Cave. During the course of our conversations, Doc’s MVP Foundation came up I offered my help, and it happened the foundation was honoring Cano and Robertson at a Trenton Thunder game in July…
So I got to work, creating portraits of David Robertson…
And Robinson Cano. At the event, Doc’s MVP Foundation was going to present the athletes with checks for $25,000 for their respective foundations: High Socks for Hope and RC24… as well as these Borbay originals.
We arrived at the ballpark, and immediately presented the paintings to Doc in the Trenton Thunder executive offices.
As soon as Cano and Robertson arrived by chopper, we met in the conference room. Thanks to Christopher Burke Studios excellent photography and Gotham Imaging’s immaculate printmaking, I had ten prints of each painting created in short order. Both Cano and Robertson graciously co-signed their respective editions, which would be auctioned for charity.
It should be noted, these guys spent every moment at this event signing autographs, shaking hands, discussing their charities and saying hello to everyone. Cano’s management team and Robertson’s wife, Erin, were delightful, friendly and I enjoyed spending time with them.
Trenton Thunder jerseys made for the event, featuring Cano and Robertson’s current Yankee numbers.
During the pregame ceremony I joined Cano, Doc, Boomer and Robertson on the field for the check/painting presentation.
Ceremony completed, it was time for some baseball… here is yours truly with my stunning wife Erin.
My parents braved a hellish commute to join us at the game, here is me and my Dad.
The beautiful women in my life… my Mom Kathie and wife Erin.
By the time we hit the top of the second, ominous clouds began to roll in.
Alas, there would be no more baseball for the evening. A driving rain pounded the field, and despite one tarp removal, the game would ultimately be cancelled. Regardless, it was a fine evening at the ballpark. Here’s a big thank you to Doc and his lovely wife for putting on a great event. Thank you Trenton Thunder for being outstanding hosts… thank you David and Erin Robertson, Robinson Cano and his team. And, of course, thank you Erin, Kathie and Steve Borbet for joining me on this special day.
