Recently, I was commissioned by the fine folks at Advertising Week to create a Manhattan-centric collage-painting for their 8th Anniversary. To promote Advertising Week, they created an ad featuring my painting, which can be found in Bloomberg’s Business Week, AdWeek and Fast Company.
If you take a moment to view the video above, you will see my creative process for this work from start to finish. I’ve also created a detailed blog post, including still photographs. Here are a few snaps of the magazines, including three spreads featuring my Advertising Week painting, advertising Advertising Week.
Mr. Branson, we meet again… and by this, I mean writer extraordinaire Zack O’Malley Greenburg, followed up his coverage of my #KingsOfHipHop exhibition in Forbes with a story on Branson.
The physical pages… (September 26 – October 2, 2011, Page 104-105 spread)
And on to AdWeek…
The spread, right up-front… literally. The distance between advertising and editorial is symbolically close. (Vol. LII, No.32, September 19-26, Page 8-9 spread)
And in Fast Company, the design issue featuring two brands I greatly admire — Apple and Nike. Many years ago, I took a campus tour of the latter, as it was my dream to work there growing up. To this day, my kicks-of-choice are Air Force One’s.
And, the internal spread. (October 2011, Page 154-155 spread)
Be sure to check out Advertising Week… it will be all over Manhattan starting October 3rd. Thank you Advertising Week for the opportunity to create this painting.
