Allow me to introduce the Four Winds, Jackson Hole. This 48″X48″, acrylic on canvas neon painting has been dying to meet you.
Would you like to see how this baby came together in one minute?
Here is the source image I used for the painting. Working from a daytime source image is never an issue… it poses the exciting challenge of invention. Sorry trees… I wasn’t feeling you for this one.
A giant blank slate, ready for action.
Banging out the two major forms, and slamming down an orange/red underpainting.
There is my sweet, sweet Vega… feeling the heat.
Banging in the shadows, some wood trim and the blue sky gradient. I wanted this to be a dark, mysterious painting.
Hitting the letters… doesn’t that blue on red reverberate?
Now things are coming together… Dude and Indy are enjoying the process.
Once the underpainting has vanished, it’s time to make the glow happen. I began with the 4 winds…
Ah, with the Motel neon and letter gradient beneath… things are beginning to pop. Now it’s time to radiate those lights.
Pure cadmium red was proved the architect of reflection…. now, it’s about detailing the wood.
And a few heavy sessions later, we have The Four Winds, Jackson Hole… my latest neon painting. Here’s looking forward to what glows next.
