When hockey teammate and friend Peter Niemi invited yours truly to join him in Montauk, I set the land-speed record for the word ‘yes’.

So, fellow artist Paul Zepeda and yours true hit the rails and arrived in Montauk on Tuesday afternoon, in search of a great painting location. Without pause, Peter recommended Navy Beach… jackpot.

After a quick chat with the team, Director of Operations Martin graciously granted us permission to set-up and get our paint on.

Knowing the sunset would eventually look something like this, I decided for a fiery palette.

The scene and my position… in the lounge, surrounded by beautiful people.

Going for the warm sunset sky, and a quick colorful layout.

Mr. Zepeda, taking a brief painting pause to assist some aspiring boarders — always a gentleman.

Getting structural with some heavy outlines, a notorious indulgence for yours truly.

Pointillism is all the rage.

Getting in there with a shadowy purple tone to help reflect the shifting planes of light.

Had to lay the picture on the ground for an accurate color reading… the brighter tones on the wood are now popping.

One last snap before signing… added bright blue to punch-up the windows, and complement the sky (pun).

Just prior to signing, a smoldering sea setting the stage for a spectacular sunset.

And my Navy Beach at sunset painting — complete.
