It’s not every day you have the opportunity to pay double homage to artists of different disciplines. With this Kanye Bear painting, commissioned by the talented Melissa Duren, for the suave Sean Conner, I was able to give Murakami a high five, with a pound to Kanye West.
From humble beginnings, to the completed product. After the jump, I’mma let you finish the process.
The best part about the under-drawing is obliterating it with headlines, focusing on phrases appropriate for the image, Kanye and Conner.
Laying down a second layer drawing, looking raw, very street. White Hot! Jackson! Fear! Power up! Cowboy Naked (the only kind of naked) sues the hot mess naked cowgirl!
More collage, more image deconstruction… painting on the roof, taking swim breaks, loving life thoroughly.
Red and yellow, the first two of the primary triad to hit the canvas. This is when the image becomes more confusing, yet simultaneously more defined.
Can you feel the heat of the sun? The acrylic is reflecting enough Vitamin D to package and sell.
Beginning to feel balanced, red, yellow, blue. A Mondrian with two shades of yellow and a far less controlled composition.
Ah, the bear begins to resurface with the addition of some pastel tones. My goal was to make the bear appear as a hologram floating over the surface of the canvas.
Slapping some outlines, and pepto pink… making it nice. This bear is ready to embrace his stoned eyes.
Working on making the colors in the background saturated for maximum contrast with Mr. Bearface.
There he is! Lots of orange and blue, because Sean is a monster Knicks fan. Yo Kanye, if you want to buy this bad boy, you will want to reach out to SdotConner, he is also quite fond of your musical jingles.
Dope!!!
