Justin Theroux as Adam Kesher from Mulholland Drive by David Lynch. That’s all you really need to know… huge fan of the actor, character, movie and director. The palette is guided by the movies strong sense of blue.
And the source… manipulated. And now, the process… the history of the world painting in phone numbers photos.
In case you missed the creepy photo of me in 2003 trying to embrace the character. Ah, the reality TV days.
A basic outline with the beginnings of the collage… headlines that make me think of the movie and my times in Los Angeles.
That’s Faye Dunaway by the pool in his eye, posed in a way that absolutely captures the Hollywood of the movies. On one sleeve, you’ll see The Ten Commandments being played at a drive-in; the other? The arms of Hitchcock and Rita Hayworth… my name is Rita.
I’m completely obsessed with the image of the Hollywood sign, as well as the word… so I abused that like in this picture. By the way, want to know why Like is so popular on Facebook? Like, it’s popular because, like, the word like, is like, totally like in our vernacular. Like, I’m totally serious.
Fully collaged, and the image is feeling lost… but I was fortunate with this canvas, I knew the path from start to finish. This is rare.
Midnight blue in the face… this painting is unusual since there are really no points of extreme highlight… and is essentially monochromatic.
OK, you can say Avatar now. Smurf is probably too far, however.
Ah yes… bring in the shadows and you too shall come to life.
This still frame by the way is from the moment when Adam Kesher is defiantly staring down the Castigliane brothers, refusing to accept “this is the girl”. Here, Kesher is faced with the unreality of Hollywood and an event which would forever change his life… he didn’t find out how until Jason told him to see the cowboy.
Tertiary tones titillate tense lenses.
Getting so close, right now, his frames make him look like his name is Flo. But that isn’t his name, not at all. (Stupid Alcatraz intro by the guy from Jurassic Park).
And final! This movie has been so important to me over the years, so I really enjoyed spending some serious time with it.
