Erin and I spent the day on Big Beach with a six-pack of local brew – Bud Light, at this location I have wanted to paint for years.
Slightly cloudy, with a forecast of light rain and good times.
Interesting subject + Erin + easel = paradise.
Initially, I went for the vertical layout (blue); but decided on the far more logical landscape format.
Exploring the picture with notes, two beers in.
Nearly time to add the paint.
Getting the paint on with a patchy coat of facial hair.
Colorizing the waves and and graffiti.
A step back to compare.
Adding some of the midtones.
The summer of salmon inexplicably continues.
And the fourth beer hath been cracked open.
Filling in the entire scene, as the sun tricks me into believing I won’t get sun burned through the clouds.
When the beers are gone and your ride arrives, it is time to fold up the easel.
It was a terrific day on Big Beach, HI.
I love this! I’ve got a great photograph of my daughter (Makenna)standing underneath the ledge just in front of the wave.
Your interpretation rocks!
Love the painting and the tags! You should write a poem just from the search tags you gave and read them while people enjoy your artwork. graffiti meets Chagall. Keep it up Grizzly Adams.
Yo, I think we have been here. Nice work Jay!!
